There are two main types of die casting equipment including cold-chamber machines and hot-chamber machines. Cold-chamber die casting machines are used on metals that do not suit well with hot-chambered machines. These metals include copper, aluminum and magnesium. The metal is first heated in a separate chamber and then the right amount of molten metal is put into the cold-chamber machine. A shot of unheated chamber is driven into the die with a piston. A hot-chamber machine uses molten metal to feed the die. ┬áThe metal fills the neck and a piston then forces the metal into the die. It is very quick and efficient.
