PIR Sensor No. 2

A sensor is a type of converter. It measures a physical quantity and changes it into a signal that is read by an electronic piece of equipment.

What Is A Sensor?

Sensors are a common piece of technology found in many different devices. It is a type of converter that can measure various readings. A sensor receives and responds to a signal when it is touched. The sensor responds to the signal based on how sensitively it has been programmed to respond. Sensors can be direct or indirect. An electronic sensor will not influence but simply record data that is to be studied. This allows for great accuracy with minimal interference. Electrical sensors can measure many different things including resistance, voltage, current, pressure, chemical, motion, light and more. With advances in technology sensors have become much more responsive to even the slightest of changes, in which they can act more like a micro-sensor. Sensors can also be used to measure smell, distance, chemicals, temperature, pressure and speed.

What Industries Use Sensors?

Sensors can be found in many industries and household objects. Most technologies that use touch software include the use of sensors. Elevator buttons and dimmer switches both rely on sensors to operate. Thermostats and thermometers also use sensor technology based on changes in temperature. Sensors are also found in many technologies that we take for granted these days which includes machining, robotics and cars. Sensors also exist in nature. These sensors include light, gravity, vibration, sound, molecules, toxins, proteins and hormones. Bio-sensors are found in cells, proteins and polymers.

Benefits

There are many different benefits that sensors provide. Sensors allow for items to be programmed to turn on or off based on many different factors. Sensors can measure many different aspects including light, smell, distance, temperature and more. Sensors can be automated as well which is great for use in manufacturing and warehousing.
